Who are we ? what do we do ?
Resource GV is a separate legal entity charged with the responsibility of strategic waste management activities throughout the Goulburn Valley Region.
Resource GV is accountable to the State Government Minister for the Environment, and uses a Regional Waste Management Plan as the key tool in achieving protection, restoration and enhancement of our environment.
Resource GV is one of Victoria’s 13 Regional Waste Management Groups (RWMGs) and was formed on 16th October 1997, as a Waste Management Region, pursuant to the Environment Protection Act 1970. Resource GV is accountable to the State Government Minister for the Environment, and uses a Regional Waste Management Plan as the key tool in achieving protection, restoration and enhancement of our environment.
Local government’s waste management responsibilities are set out in the Local Government Act 1989, and other legislation providing direction on issues such as health and planning. An important principle in driving local government waste management services is ‘best value’ which includes consideration of environmental sustainability. Local government’s primary waste management responsibility is for municipal solid waste, but they also play a role a vital role in relation to solid industrial waste, particularly in Regional areas. The Region’s member councils are:
- Campaspe Shire
- City of Greater Shepparton
- Mitchell Shire
- Moira Shire
- Murrindindi Shire
- Strathbogie Shire
Resource GV works with its member councils on issues of Resource Recovery litter and waste minimisation as well as arrangement for the disposal of residual waste. Issues of infrastructure, services, enforcement and education and awareness are some of the areas that Resource GV interact with key stakeholders in an effort to enable less solid waste going to landfill.
